Porsche revived the Carrera name – previously used for the competition orientated versions of the preceding 356 model – for its luxuriously equipped, top-of-the-range 911 in 1973, applying the evocative title to all 911 variants, co-incidentally with the introduction of the 3.2-litre engine, from the start of the 1984 model year. Although it remained an air-cooled ‘flat six’, the ‘3.2’ motor was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system, which at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. This enlarged and extensively revised new engine produced 231bhp, 27 horsepower up on its predecessor, endowing the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974, the bald statistics being a 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 245km/h, with 161km/h reachable in a breath taking 13.6 seconds. Thirty years on, Carrera 3.2s are now highly sort after and for very good reason, though finding one is not that easy.
The car we are offering here is chassis WPOZZZ91ZJS101256. An outstanding original example supplied new to the Spanish market and originally delivered in Espresso Brown metallic with full brown leather interior, as presented today. Equipped with a good number of options which included A/C and spoiler, the car was owned by its first custodian from 1987 until 2018, the year of his passing (and driven than himself only). In 2018, WPOZZZ91ZJS101256 was purchased by the second and current owner, a friend of the first owner’s family. The car was since then driven a mere 5,000 km, showing a total mileage of 158,000 km from new. Accompanied with a large number of invoices maintenance, its original sets of key (with the original leather pouch), the original service book, the original bill of sale from 1987, the full set of original tools, the original compressor, this example is a superbly specified 911 Carrera 3.2 and comes serviced: ready to be enjoyed.
